Ten Great Books for Teacher Entrepreneurs

Ten Great Books for Teacher Entrepreneurs

I first published this post about a year ago and it has been one of my most popular so I thought I would run it again.  If you have read it before, please forgive me for re-running it.  If you haven't read it before, I hope it is helpful to you.  Maybe you'll even want to add some of these to your reading list.

Rich Dad Poor Dad – Robert Kiyosaki

As I have already discussed this book and its impact on my life in an earlier post, I won’t go into detail here.  It is a great [...]

TE Tips: Stop Multi-Tasking!

I am a fan of compartmentalization.  I don’t like multi-tasking!  Your attention is divided and you actually get less done.

There is a growing body of research that multi-tasking is ineffective and inefficient and some say it doesn’t even exist at all.  What “multi-taskers” are actually doing is “serial tasking.”

According to Jim Taylor PhD in an article in Psychology today “You and every other so-called multi-tasker  are actually serial tasking.  Rather than engaging in simultaneous tasks, you are in fact shifting from one task to another to another in rapid succession.”

The article goes on to say that multi-tasking is not effective [...]

I Am Thankful For You

I am thankful for you!  Thankful that you are hear reading my blog.  It’s been quite a journey.  I started blogging about a year ago and it’s been an interesting year.  At times it seems that I am irrelevant, that no one is listening.  That is not a criticism of you.  It’s about my learning to connect with you on a topic that is relevant to you.  This is a lot harder than I anticipated.  When I started out, I didn’t know what I didn’t know and the learning curve has been significant.

The best part of my experience has been [...]

Say No To Latte and Yes To Being Rich!

Say No To Latte and Yes To Being Rich!

In one of his best selling books from the early 2000's David Bach laid out a plan for how you could become an “Automatic Millionaire.”  The tip that I want to focus on today is what Bach calls the "latte factor."  The “latte factor" refers to small expenditures you make on a regular basis that really add up, such as buying a latte or coffee on the way to work each morning.  You think it’s only pocket change, but it adds up.  If you spend $4.00 per day on a "latte” or fast [...]

Do You Start With Why?

I'd like to give credit for this post where it is due, so you can either thank Mary Larsen for this post or blame her for it.  In her Teacher Entrepreneur Profile a couple of weeks ago she recommended Simon Sinek's book Start With Why.  I knew if Mary recommended it, it would be a great read.  I picked the book up (being the nerd I am I bought the Kindle version and the audio companion) the day after interviewing Mary for the profile and it has been a gem!  It has me thinking differently about all kinds of things [...]

TE Tips: The Secret to Becoming a PAW!

Are you a PAW?  According to the Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley and William Danko, a PAW (Prodigious Accumulator of Wealth) is someone who has significantly more accumulated wealth than would be expected for their age and income level.  According to the authors many of these people have been able to accumulate significant wealth because they didn’t try to keep up with the Joneses.  They believe in:

Living well below their means
Being frugal
Limiting their tax liabilities
Investing a significant portion of their income – often 20% or more

How many of these strategies do you practice?  How much wealth could you accumulate [...]
